Projects

A taster of some of our most recent projects (in no particular order) ...
If you see anything of interest or would like to know more then please do get in touch, the cross industry potential of these activities is immense and we would be delighted to discuss them with you in wahtever field of safety critical activity you are involved in.

Development of Intelligent Safety Reporting Tool

We have been working with the one of the world's largest airlines to develop a sophisticated reporting application to enhance employee safety reporting and streamline the classification of risk for the incidents reported.  The objective is twofold: 1) to streamline the business model for safety reporting support by enabling the reporter to add significant value to the coding and classification of their reported incident and, 2) to offer a value added interface to the reporter to increase their understanding of risk.

Risk Portfolio Prioritisation

Working for a major European Aviation Regulator we developed the principles, processes and tools to enable a large portfolio of risk topics to be prioritised and evaluated against different risk performance scenarios.  The tool developed allows the authority to track its key risk areas (KRAs) and determine which is the highest priority for action in terms of overall risk, specific accident type risk and also risk contribution from different industry sectors.  These tools, combined with innovative approaches to visualisation, have provided a new solid base on which the authority can move forward with it's safety plan and risk mitigation activities.

Within this project we also identified the benefit, in fact need, to be able to prioritise risk mitigation actions in terms of their risk reduction potential.  This could be done using the same prinicples and tools and is an area of further development.  The project has lead to a similar task being requested by a global aviation regulator, the work of which is on-going.

Risk Assessment using the ARMS SIRA techniques and tools

As the co-founder of the ARMS (Aviation Risk Management Solutions) working group Andrew gets called in to provide risk assessment assistance and training in various organisations.  This ranges from major cross industry assessments of things like volcanic ash through to small scale assessments on operational changes or emerging hazards.  Background knowledge and experience of the SIRA (Safety Issue Risk Assessment) technique is a key value we bring to these projects along with a desire to see it integrated in the overall risk monitoring and managing activities within the organisation.

Safety Data System and vendor Evaluation

For a major cross border aviation regulator we were tasked with identifying, evaluating and assessing cost and benefits of a wide range of aviation safety database systems.  For this we took a fowrad thinking apporach using the latest techniques in structured decision making to evaluate the offerings against strict customer criteria, each weighted for its importance.  The program was a major sucess in terms of identifying a supplier that was outside of the expected shortlist and finding a system that could meet and exceed the customers expectations.

Studying of risk managment approach transfer between industries

Working with one of the UKs top universtities we are evaluating the potential for aviation risk management approaches and techniques to be applied in a medical context.  This involves taking a broad view of the approaches used in the aviation system and identifying synergies and opportunities for them in the medical domain.

Event Risk Classification Standards Development

Our desire to see safety critical industries move into a new era of measuring and communicating risk is lived out by our involvement in the development of a new event risk classification scheme for the European aviation system.  The scheme is being developed to build on existing concepts, particularly the ARMS concept, and provides a significant step forward for the industry in terms of a common approach towards risk measurement and performance monitoring.

Safety Training and Employee Safety Inspiration

We have done safety training all over the world, from China to the USA.  We pride ourselves in delivering more than simply training but always look for opportunities to inspire your teams and employees to see the value of really understanding your risk performance.

Safety System Reviews

We have worked with a range of organisations to review their safety systems and approaches with a view to guiding them on to the next vital steps in reducing risk within their industry.  This can be a simple as a one off visit or a more detailed engagement in the conversations on-going in their business.
